Cylinder bore taper limit
Specification
GM does not publish a discrete limit for this measurement on the LS3. See the notes below for what bounds it and the accepted service practice.
Measured with Bore gauge at top, middle, bottom.
Notes
GM SI document 2055077 "Engine Mechanical Specifications (6.2L LS3)" does not publish a discrete cylinder bore taper limit. The cylinder bore diameter spec (103.241–103.259 mm / 4.0646–4.0653 in) gives a 0.018 mm production tolerance that implicitly bounds taper. Industry practice for LS engine service uses 0.025 mm as a typical taper service limit. Verify with J-8087 cylinder bore gauge measured at the top of ring travel, mid-stroke, and just above BDC; if top-to-bottom difference exceeds 0.025 mm, the bore requires honing or boring oversize.
